Sketches! Guest Designer Sarah Jane Dowsett

I am so excited to announce this weeks Sketches! Guest Designer is:-

SARAH JANE DOWSETT

SJ has been crafting since she can remember. As a child, whilst her other friends were out causing mayhem, she would often sit in her room drawing. Her love of art and design followed her into her teens, going to Art College where she studied Art and Photography and then going on to open a tiny craft store with her mum when she was 18.

She has always said, she doesn't know her times tables, but she knows the harmonising colours on a colour wheel by heart! SJ started scrapping in 2004, but first discovered the craft when she briefly lived in New York in 2001. Sarah has been on various DT's over the years and currently scraps for the UK number 1 selling kit, Scrapagogo, and she has also designed a range of rubber stamps. SJ was frequently published in Creative Scrapbooking (no longer in publication) and has been published in Scrapbook Inspirations on many occasions.

She describes her style as slightly cartoony, and bold. Her favourite tools are alphabet stickers and her white and black pens, without which she wouldn't be able to scrap!Never seen without a camera in her hand, she feels her love of photography goes neatly hand in hand with her love of scrapping.

SJ is Married to Ben, and a mother of one, Finlay Curtis, she lives in the seaside town of Bexhill in Sussex.

I asked SJ to choose a Layout Sketch to work with and she chose Sketch #78.

And here is her layout using the Sketch.

Sketches! Design Team Spotlight: Kathleen Hopperstad

This week's Design Team Spotlight is:

Kathleen Hopperstad

Hi, I am Kathleen Hopperstad. I am excited to be spotlighted this week, especially because it's my birthday month! I love being on Tamara's recipe challenge team! It stretches me and challenges me each week to try things that I might not have or that are outside my comfort zone. I feel this only helps me grow as a stamper. I have been a stamper and scrapbooker for about 11 years and a Stampin' Up! demonstrator for the last 6 years. It was something I never thought I would do but it has turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life! My sister, Mary Jo, tried to get me interested in rubber stamping for awhile but I kept saying I couldn't get into it because I did way too many other crafts. Well, now papercrafts are pretty much the only kind of craft I do! Never say never.

I have been married to my husband, Doug, for 18 years and we have three children: Rebecca-15, Nicholas-10, and Sam-8. They keep me hopping and all of them enjoy stamping with me! My husband, Doug, is an engineer and he loves to do woodworking as a hobby. I guess this helps him understand my obsession a little bit. LOL! He built me a beautiful craft room a year ago. I have yet to post pictures because it's never clean enough! I keep saying I'll get it organized enough to take pictures but somehow it doesn't happen. I'm lucky enough to be a SAHS(stay-at-home-stamper) and work my Stampin' Up! business.

My favorite recipe challenge card I've made is Recipe Challenge#24. The challenge was to use 2 photos or stamped images, flowers, and stamping.

Here is her gorgeous card using the recipe.

Recipe Challenge #37

These challenges can be used on cards or layouts.

I will give a list of three items that must be used on a card or layout. You are not limited to only the three items listed. You can use as many items on your layout or cards as you wish. But the minimum on it must be what is listed in the recipe.

This weeks Recipe came from Tracy, one of the Recipe Design Team Members.

Create a card or layout using the following items:
  • Flowers
  • Buttons
  • Stickles or Glitter

Check out what the Design Team did with this recipe.

As usual, if you would like to share your take on this challenge, link it up in the comment section. Your layout or card could be featured here on the Sketches! Blog for our Friday Inspiration next week.

Have a great day Everyone!

Card Design Team Call

There are a few openings on the Sketches! Card Design Team.

Here are the requirements and terms for the Sketches! Card Design Team Members.Sketches! Card Design Team Term will be for four months. Beginning March 1 – June 30.

Design Team Members are required to turn in 3 cards per month. If you miss turning in a card three weeks in a row, you will automatically be dropped from the Sketches! Card Design Team without notice. Also, if your participation is sporadic, meaning you are turning in a card every other week for a few weeks, you will also be dropped. I am really looking for people who I can count on and rely upon.

Card Sketches are uploaded every Thursday on the blog. I email a new Card Sketch to the Design Team Members on Sunday and you have 7 days to make a card and email it to me.

Design Team members are to promote the Sketches! {by tamara} blog on their personal blogs and Message Boards.

Design Team members are required to have a Sketches! {by tamara} Blinkie, along with a link to the Sketches! {by tamara} blog on their personal blogs.

Being on the Sketches! Card Design Team is something that is done without pay. I do the sketches blog for fun and make no money on it. Therefore, I can not pay someone for their part in helping out with the Sketches! Blog. Basically, we all do it for the love we have of for scrapping and card making.

For those interested, email me a link to your blog or online gallery where I can see your work. Or, you can send me two completed cards you have recently made. Please email me at scrapbooksketches@gmail.com . Please put "Sketches! Card Design Team" in the subject line.

Deadline is Sunday, February 28th. New Design Team Members will be announced on the blog Sunday, March 1st and your first Card being posted on the blog will be Thursday, March 12th.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Sketches! Guest Designer - Amanda Cruxton

I am so excited to announce this weeks Sketches! Guest Designer is:-

AMANDA CRUXTON

My name is Amanda Cruxton but my friends call me Mandy. I am 37 years old and live in Birmingham in the UK with my husband Paul. We have been together 20 years although married for only 7.

I am currently looking for work having been made redundant twice in the last 6 months, but I usually work in Transport Administration.

I have been making 'things' since I was a small child and could always find something to keep me occupied. I started cross stitching when I was 15 and that moved into cardmaking in 2002 after visiting a craft show and the obsession began. I have been blogging for almost 2 years and have been lucky to have some cards published in the reader pages of UK magazines.
I love using sketches as it encourages me to lay out my cards in a different style than I would normally do. It also lets me concentrate on the materials rather than if the design 'looks right'. I am tempted to have a go at scrapbooking and I know the sketches will be a great help with that.

Thanks you so much for choosing me to be a Guest Designer, I can't tell you how honoured and excited I am.

I asked Amanda to choose a Card Sketch to work with and she chose Sketch #83.

And here is her card using the Sketch.
